280 High Holborn
280 High Holborn is a 9 Floor Commercial Building above ground; with a split level Basement below ground, along with a separate Residential Building 8 Floors above ground, the commercial building fronts High Holborn whilst the residential buildings is facing Lincolns Inn Fields to the rear in London.
The commercial building was constructed as a single level concrete basement up to a ground floor podium, the structure was then a steel frame with composite slabs around a central concrete core.
The residential building, separated by movement joints was a concrete frame which provided single apartments to each level.
As part of the sub-contract package; Atlantic Contracts Limited where responsible for the construction of all concrete elements to both structures. This included the central core to the commercial building and the concrete toppings to the composite slabs. Whilst to the residential the concrete walls and columns and each levels in-situ concrete floor slab.
As with any commercial project that is steel frame construction, speed is key to completing the central concrete core so the steel frame can be connected to it and commence. For this reason we decided to Slipform the core, as this would provide for the fastest form of vertical construction. We duly constructed the 9 storey concrete core in 3 weeks.
The residential building required being constructed during our period to construct the commercial building also, as the core walls formed the 3 sides of the building we decided to Slipform these. This would enable the core to be completed quickly, we could then complete the slabs afterwards but more importantly enabled us to release the tower crane earlier to enable the steel frame to commence.
